Dr Demetris Demetriou is a Research Fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). In 2013, he obtained a First Class MEng degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Leeds. He graduated within the top 1-2% of his cohort and made it consistently in the prestigious ‘Deans list’. In 2013, Dr. Demetriou was the recipient of an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) scholarship to carry out research in the domain of structural control and dynamics. He was awarded his PhD in 2017 from the Department of Civil engineering at the University of Leeds. Dr. Demetriou carried out post-doctoral research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) were he was responsible for the development of state-of-the-art axial tomographic techniques for damage detection on structural systems. He also carried out research at the University of West England (UWE) as part of the EU SHAPE project where he focused his activities on the development and deployment of novel NDT monitoring systems. To date, Dr. Demetriou is the holder of various awards, grants and scholarships including the prestigious ICE award and the National Academy of Engineers (NAE) VEST scholarship. Dr Demetriou is a Member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), Graduate Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), and Graduate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). He has published articles in international peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings and is acting as a reviewer for high impact international journals. Dr Demetriou’s primary research interests belong to the general area of mechatronics, structural dynamics, signal processing, earthquake engineering, control and monitoring.
